Perhaps the best measure for controlling the spread of this and other pests into Tribal lands is to strictly enforce New York’s firewood ban, which prohibits transportation of firewood of any kind. Keeping non-reservation firewood out has the potential to prevent the spread of this species. The Forestry Resources Program could launch a Tribal public education effort to explain why keeping firewood (and seeds) local is important.
