Manage forest for multiple benefits, balancing economic, cultural, health and wellness needs. The Shoalwater Bay Tribe has successfully interacted with and managed forests in the region to protect their long-term health and vitality for many generations. Traditional management practices included the cultural use of fire on the landscape to provide food, encourage and support a diverse mix of plant and animal species, and support the overall health, vigor, and vitality of the forest. Returning to and reinvesting in traditional practices of forest management and farming alongside more recent management techniques focused on providing economic benefits will help ensure the holistic health and wellness of the forest. For lands not directly owned by the Tribe, it may require enhanced collaboration with regional and state entities to support adopting some of the native management techniques and approaches.
