Initiate an educational program about climate change and the public health and wellness impacts it may bring, and ensure that traditional foods and harvest practices are central to this program. Educating tribal members on the potential impacts of climate change on human health and wellness can be a powerful prevention tool and a way to reduce adverse impacts of extreme events. Many adverse health impacts driven by environmental changes due to climate change are preventable and can be avoided with education, preparation, and planning. Traditional foods provide more than just physical health benefits. They provide wellness benefits for both mental and cultural health that support not just individuals, but the community as a whole. The Community Garden provides a critical service to the Tribe by helping to incorporate traditional foods into the diets and culture of Tribal members and also serves as a powerful tool for educating the community on the benefits of traditional foods, especially in a changing climate.
