Enhance, update, and develop new monitoring programs around traditional resource species and ecosystems. Using a combination of Traditional Ecological Knowledge and western science techniques, developing and implementing a multi-faceted monitoring program can help assess the current health of the ecosystem that are critical for traditional foods, areas, and resources use, as well as understand how these are responding to changing climate conditions. This may include: tracking location, distribution, and movement of invasive species; conducting biodiversity surveys or individual species population surveys/assessments to describe current baseline conditions and manage distribution shifts; and conducting surveys that estimate populations and distribution of selected plant and animal species. This type of monitoring can be multi-generational, incorporate long standing TEK, and provide opportunities to get the younger generations out in and interacting with the local reservation areas and resources.
