Continue to invest in multi-benefit smoke protection measures in strategic locations to help protect the health of tribal members from adverse effects of wildfire smoke and particulates. Wildfire smoke will continue to be a part of life in a climate altered future, even from regional fires that do not directly threaten the community. Smoke can be particularly dangerous to elders, children, and those with pre-existing conditions such as heart disease and asthma. Continuing to maintain air filtration systems in public facilities, distributing (and providing guidance on usage on) low-cost systems that filter smoke and improve indoor air quality during these events, as well as distributing air filtering face masks during smoke episodes for those who would need to be outside can help limit impacts on community members and essential workers.
