CSKT has certified climbers to climb and cage the cones. Whitebark pine is a very sensitive population, where the cone has to be collected using the cage because over 40 different species eat the cone and seeds. In 2019 CSKT forestry along with the help of SKC interns helped locate and cage 25 ‘plus’ trees and put up roughly 200 cages.
